This festival of original plays featured over 30 talented actors and marked Speranza's first performances in our new home, Jersey City, NJ. The purpose of Fall Festival 2013 was two-fold: to showcase new work and to create a conversation with our audience about what plays they would like to see on the main stage. Attended by over 100 audience members...we've selected JANEY MILLER'S WORLD TOUR from this line up which will be performed in Jersey City in the fall of 2014!
Founded in 2008, Speranza Theatre Company subscribes to an actor-director-playwright collaborative approach to story-telling based in honesty and truth. Speranza means hope in Italian
Speranza means hope in Italian. On a crisp Fall evening in 2008, Speanza co-founders Rachel, Francesca & Heather decided it was time for a strong word to represent their budding NYC theatre company. Sitting in a restaurant on 8th Avenue, Rachel and Heather began to ask Francesca, the resident official on everything Italian, to translate several words. Passion, drama, fearless, collaborative, play, thought-provoking; finally asking for the translation of hope...Speranza. It was unanimous. Speranza summed up the mission and gave the company purpose, plus it sounded amazing when Francesca pronounced it with her Italian accent! So yes, the name is Speranza, not Esperanza (that's Spanish) that was selected over a bottle of Italian wine on 8th Avenue.
Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.

Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul - and sings the tunes without the words - and never stops at all.

All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.

You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world's problems at once but don't ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own.

Speranza's New Website, and New Director of Social Media!
Happy Halloween to all! We have a bunch of things on the horizon, and right now the pieces for them are moving into place.
First, we'd like to welcome Kathleen Choe, our New Director of Social Media! We're so excited to have her on board. In our first meeting with last week, we learned all about the use of social media and theatre (and what the heck "trending" is). You can now follow us on Twitter @Speranzatheatre, as well as join our Facebook group, Speranza Theatre Company. We've got lots of exciting things on the horizon, and by following us you'll be able to get our latest news, as well as some other tidbits we think you'll enjoy.
Also, our website revamped and running! Same place--www.SperanzaTheatreCompany.com--but with a fresh new look. Like we said, lots of things coming up, so check back often for updates. Kathleen's bio has not been added as of yet, but in the meantime, you can find more information about her at www.Kathleen-Choe.com.
It's turning out to be an exciting time for Speranza as we move towards the end of 2011. Wishing you all a happy and safe Halloween!
